ONE . 5

End of Week 2, and things went a little slower this week, many interruptions and disturbances. We had some pitches for jingles for Television adverts etc and the workflow of "SEVEN" took a back seat until Wednesday.

While sitting on the couch during a TV Jingle pitch, I reached over to Wayne's guitar and began playing a riff which caught everyone's ear in the room, as soon as the "pitch people" left the Studio, Wayne and I began working with it and Wayne being the "rhythm guitarist" came up with a super anthem chorus to end all anthems choruses!

We have subsequently arranged the song in a completely different format to how we "traditionally" have been and today things really started hotting up bigtime.

Drums for this one are going to be amazing, will spend next week getting the drum sound and tone "song specific" for this one, it deserves special attention!

No name for it yet but we have a working title, more details over the weekend.

Well its the end of Week 1, and things are hotting up at Dreamspace Studios. We have tracked final drum takes for 3 of the SEVEN songs on the New Album, and my oh my, I really can say that I'm most proud of this work. It sounds absolutely incredible, clear, punchy, edgy and energetic!

3 different drum kits, for 3 different songs, each with their own personality, I'm simply amazed. Wayne's engineering skills on the mixing board are blowing my mind!!!

Enough of the musical muso talk, we have a way to go, we are really taking our time and preparing everything so it builds up to be exactly what we want and even more importantly what you guys , THE FANS, are going to absolutely LOVE TO LISTEN TO.

Wayne sang some scratch vocals (test vocals) over "Headlights" yesterday and we're preparing the track for Gorm, Our Guitarist to lay his Guitar parts over, such nice spaces for him to do his magic!

So tomorrow we're back in there, we'll keep you all updated, Sunday is "relax" time, and then back at it again on Monday, possibly some sound bites in week 3 will become available on this blog, keep posted.....

ONE . 3

So since we've been back in studio (Monday 25th Jan) we've been testing out a wide range of instruments incl Guitars, Electric Guitars, Bass Guitars, Drums, all sorts, big, small, loud or soft, to see what and which ones we need to use and where we need to use them, and for which songs....Did that all make sense?

We have been laying down various drum patterns and have been tuning the drums to all sorts of different tones best suited for it's certain application.

Wayne and I have been writing mainly on Piano, but will end up taking alot of the Piano's out, as we're just using it as a writing aid, we find you write completely different songs depending on the instrument your're using to write the song. We'll leave the bits that need to be played "properly" on the keys to our Keyboardist "Jason Reolon" he's the "key" man.

The first potential single from the album is called "Headlights" and has a very strong melody. I'm really happy with the beat it has and represents the true Merseystate sound! It will make you wanna dance and let your hair down!

Day 2 in studio, tracking drums and playing about with microphone placements and pre-amps!

Aircon is making us lose oxygen and all the song tempo's are flying into the land of 150bpm!

These are some sneak peak pics so that you can see what we're up to, so far so good, it's really the greatest job in the world making music that bends you're bones!
